Media Visit - Media one channel
Students of sixth semester BA Mass Communication (2016-19 batch) visited Media One TV Channel at Velliparamba, Calicut as part of the curriculum on 13 August, 2018. The students had gone through news reading, editing processes. Live broadcasting and technological aspects of the same is explained in a professional manner. The students got an opportunity to interact with Mr. Rashel, staff in the broadcasting section and it is helpful for them to understand the functioning of the unit at a different angle. Mrs. Drisya Raj, faculty, Dept. of Language and Communication accompanied the students.
Press visit – Indian Express
Students of the Department of Language and Communication went for an Industrial Visit on 10th October 2018. More appropriately, a Media Visit to the Indian Express Daily, Easthill, Calicut. The students of second year BA Mass Communication and third year BA Functional English were clubbed together. Two faculties from the department, Ms. Swathy K.S and Ms. Shabna had accompanied and departed from the college at sharp 10:35AM and arrived at the destination point by 11:00AM. From there both classes were divided into two and at first had entered in the paper designing room. From there, one of the Chief explained the students that how a paper is being designed by the magical hands of experts. Also how it can be made attractive and colourful. The Chief mentioned about the history and present condition of newspapers. The designing room was a sunless area. They only allow yellow lights to pass through. Because the room contained some Ultra Violet boards which are used for newspaper design. Then finally the students got a chance to see the live printing machine, an enormous giant one. Every second, hundreds of newspapers can be printed. Everything is so quick and neat. No systematic errors can be found and lots of employees are busy with their schedule. The students had made a detailed study and investigation on how a newspaper industry like the great Indian Express works on in its full swing. This was pretty much an infotainment Media Visit.. The students return back the college at 12:30pm.
V – Set Programme – Residential Camp
The students of BA Mass Communication attended a residential camp for two days at V SET Wayanad. It helped students to learn a lot of life lessons along with a bunch of entertainment. This two day camp was a success since it won a lot of hearts. The journey to Wayanad started at 7.45 am from Calicut K.S.R.T.C bus station on 1st October. Mrs. Anjali C.K, Class tutor, Mr. Joseph, Mrs. Drisya Raj, faculties of the department of Language and Communication accompanied with the students. The team reached the camp by 10.30 am. The climate was quite cold and soothing and the institution was amidst of a lot of greenery which gave the participants a lot of energy.
First session was an introductory class, started around 12.00 pm and finished around 1.00 pm. The teachers out there were Mr.Joseph, Mr. Sujithlal and Mr. Jagadheesh. The introductory class was funny in nature. Second session started at 2.00 pm. It was one of the best as it contains elements of motivation about life. After 4.30 pm there was a playtime enriched with fun and entertainment. Students played a number of games like football, badminton etc. Third session started at 6.30 and lasted till 8.30 pm and this class had a little different approach, which included classes on moral values, relationships and also included meditation. It seems students felt very light in them and enriched. Then cultural programmes began at 8.30 pm. Literally, each student showcased the talent within them. The next day began with a rejuvenating meditation which also opened eyes to the real world. It made the students realise how important parents are and why they should always make them happy. Next day the first session began around 10.00 am which included some fruitful team oriented activities.
The thing that amused was students had actively listened to all classes with full attention and never felt it boring at any point. All in all, participants enjoyed a lot. The main objective of the camp was to break the ice between new students and to create unity with within them. In sum, the whole two days were systematically planned in such a way that to entertain and to enlighten in life.
Kerala Summit-Debate at Media One Channel, Calicut
A debate was conducted on October 5th Friday from 4.30 to 6.00 pm in Media One studio at Velliparamba, Calicut on the subject ‘Supreme Court order and Controversies in Sabarimala’. It was purely a debate programme named ‘Kerala Summit’. Five eminent personalities, Vidyasagar Gurumoorthi(Vedantha Acharyan), P Sathi Devi(CPM, Janadhipathya Mahila Association), Adv.Praveen Kumar(Congress), Mullappalli Krishnan Namboothiri(Interview board,Sabarimala Melsanthi) and Adv. Sanku T Das were participated in the programme. Ten students from BA Mass Communication and five from BA Functional English actively participated in the programme. Different viewpoints had risen during the debate. History of Kerala, Renaissance, and Freedom of individual as well as religious freedom ensured by the constitution, cultural heritage of India etc. are discussed. Students got a rich experience through participating live studio production.
Kerala Summit-Debate at Media One Channel, Calicut
A debate was conducted on October 12th Friday from 4.30 to 6.00 pm in Media One studio at Velliparamba, Calicut on the subject ‘Me too campaign’. Six students from BA Mass Communication and six from BA Functional English were part of the summit. Adv. Noorbina Rasheed (National general secretary, Women’s league), Didi Damodar (Script Writer), Adv. M.S Saji (Legal Advisor),Aparna Sivakami ( Teacher & Activist), K.P Ramanunni (Writer) were portrayed their viewpoints.
The # Me Too movement which exploded in all areas, across India is fast outing the so called ‘Gentle Men’ in the Malayalam film industry, as the second wave of this movement is gaining strength in India especially in art and media. Many women celebrities came up with #Me Too stories and majority of the population is standing with them. Supposing as well as opposing views arises during the talk show. Debate ended with how helpful it was in gaining insights into social issues. It also helped the students to understand the production process and technicality of TV broadcasting.
Student Participation in the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK)
The 23rd International film festival was held at Trivandrum from 7th December to 13th December. 160 films were screened from 72 countries. Eight students of the department of BA Mass Communication had attended the film festival for 3 (December 8, 9 and 10) days. It was a rich experience for the students. They had an opportunity to view internationally acclaimed films, participated in open discussions, meet celebrities from various film related areas etc.
Participation in the Media fest of Lissah College
BIVTEO, International film fiesta was conducted by Journalism department of Little Flower Institute of Social Sciences and Health (LISSAH) College, Kaithapoyil, in association with Kerala Chalachithra Academy at 25th and 26th of February 2019, which included various workshops and classes of many eminent personalities from the field. More than 150 students from various colleges had participated. There were four competitions, Tik talk, RJ Hunt, Spot Photography and Film Quiz. 8 Students from the department of Mass Communication and 2 from Economics had participated and St.Joseph’s College Devagiri took away the overall championship trophy
Participation in open forum at Malabar Christian College, Calicut
On 11 March, 2019, Department of Journalism in Malabar Christian College, Calicut conducted an open forum named ‘Warriors of Words’ . The programme was conducted between 2.30 to 4.30 PM. Two second semester students from the mass communication department had participated for the same. The important personalities who interacted in the programme was Rahul Eswar (Activist), Abhilash Mohan (Journalist), Hameed Chennamangaloor(Social Critic) and Gargi (Novelist).
